The Furthur Foundation strives to provide financial assistance to progressive groups working on environmental and social change issues.

Funding Interests

The foundation is interested in environmental issues including ecology, habitat preservation, environmental defense, environmental education and urban environmental issues.

Requirements & Limitations

The foundation tends to support smaller, grassroots and community-based organizations. The Furthur Foundation funds:

  • Environmental issues, in particular the loss of habitat;
  • Social change efforts that are progressive and focused on identifiable communities of affected people; and
  • Capacity-building: trainings and related programs.

The Furthur Foundation does not fund:

  • Individuals;
  • Organizations without 501(c)(3) status; and
  • Organizations with budgets over $1 million.

Application Process

The foundation requires an application that includes a description of the project, budget and fund raising status. Additional guidelines as well as an application form can be found on the website.

Purpose: This organization is working to preserve and protect the habitat for endangered species of the Santa Cruz Mountains bioregion. They work through community education, monitoring, research, outreach, habitat preservation and restoration.<br><br>

Grant 2

Grantee: Green City Project, San Francisco, CA
Amount: $

The project is designed to increase the compatibility of cities with their local natural systems by providing resources to link individuals together in support of community-based ecological activities. Green City is a project of the Planet Drum Foundation, an ecological education organization that promotes the concepts of bioregions and emphasizes sustainability, community self-determination and regional self-reliance.
